Event: Collaborative Project: "Coffeetional" Coffee Tree Plantation 2020

Date: December 12, 2020 (judging), April 10, 2021 (prize-giving)

Organizers: Faculty of Science, New Kopisan

The “Coffeetional” Coffee Tree Plantation 2020 is a coffee tree contest. Organized by the village head Mr. Chen Kong Hoy and sponsored by Mr Alex Chan Chin Chee, PMP PJK, the contest aimed at encouraging the locals of Kopisan to pick up the cultivation of coffee trees, to improve the livelihoods of the local community, as well as to put Kopisan on the map as the tourist attraction for coffee. In this contest, judges from the Faculty of Science, UTAR assessed numerous coffee trees planted by individual owners around the town of Kopisan, from which three winners were announced, with a grand prize worth RM1,000.

12 Dec 2020. A healthy cluster of coffee berries. Despite the popularity of coffee, not many have had the opportunity to see a coffee tree. Working together, the folks of Kopisan have planted an estimate of 2,500 coffee trees throughout the neighbourhood, as an effort to introduce the plant to the general mass.
