Au explained the company’s irrigation systems and digital farming practices as part of precision agriculture, powered by solar energy. He also highlighted how these technologies optimise water usage, improve crop yield consistency, and support more sustainable farming operations.
The farm supervisor from AUAsia Agrotech briefed students on the cultivation of hybrid-grown vegetables using patented technologies. The session also emphasised how these innovations enhance crop quality, improve resilience, and support efficient, modern farming practices.
A student participated in a hands-on session operating a compact farm transporter/harvesting cart. The activity provided valuable insight into real-world farm operations, including efficient crop transport and workflow management in modern agricultural settings.

Ms. Nurul Illiana Binti Mazlishah explained the principles of gel electrophoresis and the PCR process to the students, highlighting how these techniques are used in DNA analysis and molecular biology research.
Mr. Ooh Keng Fei conducted a demonstration on Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), showcasing high-resolution imaging of sample surfaces and its applications in advanced material and biological analysis.
Ms. Jamisah binti Shafie demonstrated and explained the Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) technique, emphasising its role in separating and identifying chemical compounds in laboratory settings.
Mr. Seou Chi Kien guided a student in preparing a sample pellet for Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) Spectroscopy analysis, providing hands-on experience in sample preparation and functional group identification.
Mr. Leong Thung Lim explained the principles and functionality of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), illustrating how the technique is used to determine molecular structure and composition.

Dr. Clement Wong Kiing Fook, Head of the UTAR Department of Agricultural and Food Science, welcomed participants to the webinar and introduced the university’s Agricultural Science and Plantation Technology programmes. He highlighted their relevance to current industry needs, emphasising hands-on training and career opportunities in the evolving agri-food sector.
The first speaker, Pn. Norshafiqah Khalid, Lead of Strategic Crops at FGV Research and Development Division, presented on “Commercial Production of Elite Aromatic Green Dwarf (AROD) Coconut Seedlings: Selection and Performance,” highlighting key practices for improving yield and quality.
The second presenter, Ms. Lim Chin Ching from the Research Department of United Plantations Berhad, presented on “DNA as a Tool in Coconut Varietal Identification and Improvement,” highlighting the role of molecular techniques in enhancing crop quality and breeding efficiency.
